Bedroom Pieces Ready To Go!

It is great to be back in the shop, drinking my coffee, writing my blog, driving Sherri crazier than she already is.

Denis with Segmented Turning

Denis with Segmented Turning

On our trip I went as far as Boston and had the opportunity to spend the evening with Denis, aka The Teenage Woodworker, and his family. They had a fantastic dinner prepared for us and we laughed a lot. Denis took us downstairs (3 flights of a spiral stairway) to see his shop. His younger brother Steven got the camera out and we did some “filming.” TWW uploaded the videos to his blog on I’ve already gotten emails saying I’ve put on a few pounds. It was the shirt (hee hee), not to mention I had just stuffed myself with a big meal and it was really gooooood! Night Stands & Dresser Ready!

We’re going to deliver the night stands and dresser today, running behind on the armoire but I’ll be bringing you along as I build it. The client decided on some design changes. At 52″ wide and 26″ deep and topping out at 84″ tall, I talked her into doing it in two pieces and dividing the drawers. This is a big piece and the drawers are deep. Really wide drawers always present binding issues and 48″ wide drawers are going to try to bind and be heavy to open and close. While a good set of guides would handle it, metal guides aren’t what I use in my furniture nor what she expects.

Well, wrapping up most of our loose ends we had to leave but getting back on track and rocking through. Concluding my newsletter (be out later today or tomorrow) and moving on.

It sounds like a lot of fun was had by all. I watched the videos at LJ and that TWW seems like a really nice young man.
It’s great to see young folks can still be attracted to something as productive and useful as woodworking at such a young age.
I don’t know what his influences were or are, but whatever the reason I wish there were more like him in front of a table saw instead of a video game all day.
Blue Ribbon compliments to you and Sherri for taking the time to visit with him and encourage him. That’s my wife and I will continue to support your and Sherri’s efforts in any way we can – because y’all are making a difference.
Now get back to work and do something you globetrotter. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  2. Wow Denis, how cool was that! A visit from the “man” and legend himself. A day you’ll never forget I’m sure!

  3. Dresser and night stands…beautiful! great work.

Question, will those drawer pulls tarnish or age with time, then get that funky look till they completely age? Or are they sealed with something?

Ace….dont you have work to do…? You been hanging out with BIg Bob too much…

  5. intheworkshop says:

    wow Ace an intellegent question,,,

they will not tarnish..they have a lacquer coating…you can buy lacquer for brass..but by simply cleaning it good and polishing it…try autobody polishing compound if its tarnished or toothpaste…to buff any small scratches out …and tarnex (hardware store).to simply clean the tarnish off..then use any good lacquer..(spray can) ..use a gloss…oh yea..spray cans of gloss anything dont have the rattle ball inside…its only the lower sheens…because gloss doesnt have any flattners in them…that require mixing…but shake it good anyway..just to get the solvents and resins well mixed….I know..more than you wanted to know..

  6. Like Bob, I always make the time for you! ๐Ÿ˜‰
