I didn’t get as far along as I had wanted but I did okay. I got the door parts all cut and ready for glue up.
While I was processing the material for the doors I was thinking how most guys don’t have jointers or drum sanders (I didn’t until about 10 years [...]

Sorta took the weekend off. Just needed a little recharge. I messed around here at the shop a little, but not much. Thought about cleaning up, but got over it.
Well, I got the face frames, moldings, and crown on the stepback, now got some doors and drawers and the back, and it [...]

Yesterday was a day of talking to folks, sorting out filming stuff, and working some more with some new tools I’m going to film. That’s a tough job, but someone has to do it, heh heh.
I know I have written this before, but it bears repeating:
When I got into this tool testing and reviewing [...]

Okay, yesterday I got the case standing and fitted, so now it’s on to the face frames and doors. Here’s a shot of the material I got at Willow Run, very nice. I’m going to do the face frames using a single length, meaning the top case and bottom case will all be [...]

Yesterday, as I was working the material for the Step Back, which is curly cherry, the two upper case sides (one board) were twisted. I knew they were when I skim planed them, but I also knew I had some strong 5/4 material to work with. There are several things I could have done, shimmed [...]

Yesterday I got the pigeon hole carcasses done. There is definitely more work in them than it seems. They are all done out of 5/16 stock, except where the prospect door will be, then it’s 1/2″. I need the heavier wood to install the hinges & lock. I have done all kinds of pigeon holes [...]

I have to install the hardware from Horton Brasses and the locks….wrap up the pigeon holes and then it’s scrape and sand time and then the finish. I will bring you along the best I can on the wrap-up. I’m not going to write a lot on this as the photos pretty well tell the [...]

Yesterday was a mix of processing material, finishing and routing moulding and making the ogee bracket feet profiles for the slant front desk.
I ran the moulding using my multi-form bit, like in the Keeping Chest video, Eagle Bit #177-2005/Price Cutter #P14-3628and I use the profile they never show. I simply use the bottom part of [...]

I went to Willow Run yesterday, Billy had already scoped through some of the material and knew what I was looking for, mostly just some nice curly cherry as well as some quarter sawn for rails and stiles. They had some super nice tight curl stock, that’s pretty nice stuff so I got some [...]
